With the 2020 Bathurst 1000 not far away, some of the race favourites took to the kart track today, and after completing more than 100 laps each in preparation for the Great Race, the learnings from the session will surely prove invaluable for the race weekend.

Sources familiar with the situation told The Waterton Chronicle Jamie Whincup was looking good for the win for most of the race, until what he’s calling a “technical issue” forced him to rely on gravity and momentum to just finish the race.

“I just don’t understand why this keeps happening to me?!” Jamie told this reporter.

“I mean, look, yeah I ran a pretty low fuel load, and the team were a bit concerned for some reason. They told me at least five times I probably was going to run out of fuel. But I still don’t really understand why the engine just stops like that when it runs out of fuel. It’s confusing.” the Queenslander explained.

This reporter sought comment from Triple 8 boss Roland Dane regarding any steps they’ll be taking to ensure Jamie doesn’t run out of fuel this time.

“It’s a complicated situation. We’re still working with Jamie on what the rules are around passing safety cars. Give him time though.” Roland explained.
