Penrite Racing’s David Reynolds has taken an innovative approach to keeping calm and focused during his Top Ten Shooutout lap at the Superloop Adelaide 500 this afternoon, and it almost saw him claim pole position.

While most drivers probably sip on electrolyte drinks or eat a banana or something before starting their hotlap in a shootout situation, Davie decided to take it up a notch, with the cheeky bugger apparently sneaking a bong into the car when his team wasn’t looking, apparently thinking no one would notice.

People did notice though, as smoke started pouring out of the “Holden” about halfway through his warm up lap, with fans around the entire circuit basking in a calming haze of smoke by the time Reynolds crossed the line to claim P2.

The Waterton Sports Chronicle spoke to an incredibly chilled out Davie after the shootout to get his thoughts on the new strategy.

“Yeah it was a bit sneaky of me I guess, but hey man, it worked pretty well don’t you think?” he chirped.

“Anyway, it’s not like I was only one hotboxing a Commodore in Adelaide this afternoon is it man?” he added with a grin.
